Small Business Resources - Is your company using them?
Posted on November 18, 2013
Many small business owners are feeling the ripple effect of the changes taking place throughout the healthcare industry. Previously, healthcare documentation companies have relied on a flourishing industry and substantial market demand for survival and viable growth. Recently, with technology changes, new healthcare laws, rules and regulations, medical transcription service organizations (MTSOs), software vendors and educational vendors alike are feeling the need for increased visibility and brand recognition in the healthcare community.
Healthcare providers in hospitals and clinics are dealing with myriad changes, such as the HITECH Act (EHR) mandate, Meaningful Use definition changes, ICD-10 implementation, and HIPAA Omnibus Final Rule. Consequently, providers and their support staff are scrambling to keep up with these changes and regulations in the midst of seeing patients and administering the best care possible. This leaves MTSOs and other healthcare documentation vendors constantly vying for a space in the provider's busy world of technology and legislative changes, and creating the need to reach out to the industry more so than ever before. During these changing times, it is imperative for healthcare documentation companies to keep abreast of the latest industry information, maintain a strong networking group, and utilize best practices guidelines for existing and prospective clients. Small business owners in the healthcare documentation industry should not overlook the resources available to assist with business growth, marketing, financing, and keeping abreast of industry changes. Two such resources are the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) and the United States Small Business Administration (SBA).
The Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity, the world's largest professional society representing the clinical documentation sector, partners with its Corporate members to strengthen company brand and maintain a favorable reputation in the marketplace. AHDI plays an intricate role in educating Corporate members and assisting with navigating the changes taking place in the healthcare industry today. AHDI is the go-to association for current industry trends and updates, and has created a suite of benefits to include market intelligence, public relations, and sales and marketing resources as well as advocacy alliances.
The US Small Business Administration (SBA), an independent agency of the federal government, provides resources and help to small businesses for things such as writing a business plan, financing your business, hiring and retaining employees, and growing your business. The SBA also provides assistance to small businesses who wish to pursue potential federal contracting opportunities. SBA has maintained their strategic plan of growing businesses, creating jobs, and building an infrastructure that meets the needs of small businesses today and in the future. It also serves as a voice for small businesses.
